The quaich: Scotland’s cup of friendship

“Quaich” is a Scots rendering of the Gaelic word “cuach”, meaning cup.

Whether passing round a campfire deep in the Highland wilderness, or sharing your favourite dram with friends around your kitchen table, the quaich’s simple yet beautiful two-handed design is perfect for passing from one friend to another.

Most quaichs sold today are mass produced in pewter or silver plate. Originally however, the quaich had more humble beginnings being carved from a single piece of wood, most probably by Highland crofters and lathe workers. Metal quaichs came later to attend to the refined needs of the wealthier Scots. So when you share a dram from a hand-carved wooden quaich like this one, you are getting back to the roots of a true working Highlander!

– Hand carved from a sustainable source of wood within the Cairngorms

– Retains each and every cut made by the axe and knife

– Each cup is absolutely unique

Care instructions

To love your cup, rinse with warm soapy water and leave to dry. Do not leave to soak in water and don’t wash in the dishwasher. Your cup has been treated with a food safe oil, so before your first drink rinse your cup with warm (but not hot) water a few times to remove any taste of oil.

Happy drinking!
