Description
This course is designed to focus your skills with the carving knife to get great finish on your cup.
In this course you will hone your knife skills for arguably the most important process to get a good looking cup. At the end of the day you will also be able to paint your cup so you can go home and start using it a few days after the paint has dried.
There are to types of cup making course Wooden Tom offers. In both you will go home with a cup! Whereas this one is designed for folk to have a nice day working with their hands and learn some safe carving techniques to go home with a finished item they can be proud of.
The other course (focus on the form) is more intense learning how to use the axe and gouge to learn how to create a cup from an earlier starting point. As this takes longer you go home with a cup needing some finishing work at home. Both courses can be done separately or together and in any order depending on what skills you would like to improve.
Learn Scottish woodcarving traditions in the forest at Inshriach, close to Aviemore. Follow in the footsteps of the ancient Highlanders by replicating a 2000 year old Highlands cup of your own. With expert tuition from Wooden Tom, you will be guided to safely use hand tools such as a knife and axe to create your own Highlands kuksa cup or whisky quaich to take home.
This is one of the more technical and physical courses so to get the most out of it, it is recommended you have done some woodwork before or at least used to working with your hands in other activities. Either that or you just have bags of enthusiasm! This is a great course to learn many of the grounding skills in one day which are transferable on to other carving projects.
