Description

Prep for Autumn by making your very own porridge bowl. You will get to design your own porridge bowl to fit your needs. We start with quite a big piece of wood so prepare to get a workout!  We will spend the first part of the day axing out your shape and then go onto hollowing it after lunch. With expert tuition from Wooden Tom, you will be guided to safely use the axe and gouge to create your own bowl to take home.

This is one of the more physical courses due to the large piece of wood we start with so to get the most out of it, it is recommended either you have some degree of arm strength or you just have bags of enthusiasm!

Skills learned

  • Design aspects of a bowl
  • Correct use of the carving axe to rough out the shape of your item
  • Safe hollowing with the gouge

Tools used

  • Carving axe
  • Saw
  • Carving knife
  • Gouge

As much freshly made coffee or tea as you can take are included in the course cost.  At the end of the day there will be a chance to buy some of the tools you have used if you like.

All courses are held in beautiful oak woodlands on the Inshriach estate, just outside of Aviemore. For more information on location and surroundings, click here.
